Egyptian photographer

Danièle-Nicole : Senegal won against Egypt last Sunday. It has been its first time to be the winner of the Africa Cup of Nations. You’re an Egyptian photographer and you took photos of happy Senegalese supporters who were celebrating the victory. You posted them on your official Facebook page « Ahmed El-Hariry » Did you behave as a photographer who tooks photos according to the event or you did so to congratulate Senegal?

Ahmed El-Hariry : First of all thank you so much for taking the time and hosting me, and congratulations to you 🎉Regarding your question, I did it for the following reasons; firstly of course because I was happy for Senegal and that should not be a surprising thing because at the end we are all brothers living on the same continent, sharing almost the same problems and conflicts but as well sharing the same moments of happiness.

Secondly being a professional photographer that gave me the ability to be neutral regarding events of the same manner (entertainment) but of course not being neutral in humanitirian conflicts.Thirdly, which is related to the later, being a documentary photographer, I had the duty to document and fix these wonderful moments for senegales and especially in a foreign land « Paris ».And finally on a personal manner, I am not a big fan of football anyways😄

How can you define photography ? Is it an art, a passion or a means of expression for you?

It is all of them, but most importantly it is who I am, and it is the tool that I am willing to use to fulfill my potentials and ambitions.

Do you take photos with a camera or with a cellphone? What do you think about photography by smartphone?

Nowadays I have to take pictures with a professional camera, not to forget to say that I didn’t yet get my own professional camera, I have been using all the time my friend Sohieb’s camera back in Egypt and currently I am using my fiancée’s camera 😄

And of course smartphone photography is very revolutionary! And a must do step for any photographer! I myself started practicing photography back in 2013 with a Nokia N97 mobile phone with very limited phone camera abilities (5 megapixels) and that wasn’t an obstacle for me at all, on contrary it was how I learned photography.
